We 100% believe that in order to get your facts straight, you need to ask questions … and lots of them. And on a day this big, you don’t want to leave anything out. We have taken some time to go through our most frequently asked questions and listed them below with answers.

That said, we feel there are a few things you need to know about what it’s like to work with us. As much as we want you to ask about our work, we think it’s equally important that you jive with us too!

HERE ARE OUR CORE VALUES. We carry them with us wherever we go, yes, we’ll even bring them to your big day (don’t worry, they don’t eat):

  1. Generosity. We love working with couples who are givers. Couples who put their guest’s experience above details like centerpieces and place cards. We’re drawn to generous spirits because it’s something we feel is the cornerstone of our ability to tell your story accurately and authentically.
  2. Trust. We know this day is insanely important to you (as it should be). We also know you have a lot on your plate and don’t want to be one more worry of yours on your big day. We trust you to have the time of your life, you trust us to do what we do best: get it all on film.
  3. Love of the art. There is nothing better than working with clients who have a deep appreciation for the work we do. They have more fun, they’re more relaxed and their films turn out to be our best work as a result.
  4. Authenticity and honesty. Couples who are honest with us and themselves and who bring their true selves every time we see them completely rock our worlds. It’s that rawness that tells the real story. And there’s nothing more beautiful than that!

Who will be filming my wedding?
Many companies sub-contract their shooting and editing, but when you hire Shade Tree, you get Shade Tree.

Why should we consider Shade Tree Films for cinematography coverage?
Of course, we believe there are many reasons to consider our team for your wedding, but in a nutshell we are a team of professional filmmakers that love people and love what we do! We catch precious moments with a very unique style. Ultimately we believe great imagery speaks for itself but what makes us different is our ability to portray each couples story, unique to them.

What is the booking process?
After you decide to use our services, a 50% retainer is due upon booking, and the remaining 50% is due 30 days prior to the date of the event. Feel free to send us an email and we can send your more detailed information on packages and pricing.

What do you need from us prior to the event?
Our goal is to make your experience with us as easy and stress free as possible; therefore the little we do require of you is intended to make working with us enjoyable and easy for you. Logistically, all we need from you is a detailed event timeline at least one week prior to the event. Most importantly we need your trust in us as filmmakers and friends.

What equipment do we need to provide for you the day of the event?
We are a completely self-contained team. We bring everything that we need. This includes cameras, lights, audio, etc. The only thing we can’t bring with us is electricity. We will need at least one electrical outlet designated for us in all locations of your event.

When will you arrive and depart from the event?
Much of the story occurs in the moments of the early morning preparations. We arrive as everything is getting started. This is when we are able to capture footage of the bride and groom preps as well as the ceremony site prep. We leave the event once the story has been captured, which usually is shortly after open dancing has begun.

Will you direct us, instructing us on what to do while filming is taking place?
The essence of our films is to capture moments as organically as possible. We never ask a couple to say certain things into the camera, or do certain actions; we want their film to reflect them naturally. However, if lighting or background is not conducive to an optimal finished product, especially during preps, we will ask if we can move to a different part of the room or facility to make sure we capture the moments in the best way possible. Ultimately, it is all about you being you!

Do you film both the bride and groom preps?
Yes, we feel a couple’s story is incomplete without both preps.

Do you mic the groom and officiant?
Yes, we mic both the groom and the officiant. On the groom and the officiant we will use two mics for the film, one is a back up audio source.  We use professional grade wireless mics to ensure we always get the best possible audio.

Do you shoot in HD?
Does a bear crap in the woods? Yes, but most importantly we are focused on capturing your story and ensuring that you are happy with your film.

How long does it take to get our film back?
Again, our biggest concern is that we create a film that you absolutely love, that is not a cookie cutter film, but rather created custom for each couple. In order to do this, it takes time; the season and workload are also factors that come into play. But on average each film takes about 4 to 6 months to get back to you but it will be more specifically outlined in your contract.

Do you charge overtime?
All packages include up to 12 hours to ensure necessary coverage. If it seems as though you will need more coverage, we will simply ask you what events you would like us to stay and cover or how much longer you would like us to stay. Our over-time rate is $250 per hour and payment is due upon request of overtime.

Do you work well with photographers?
Yes, absolutely! This is something we greatly pride ourselves in. We do not see weddings as a competition of shots, instead we focus on the couple and their day. In order to make sure we are on the same track as a photographer, we email the photographer a week before the wedding to introduce ourselves and let them know we want to work together as a team. Our desire is to not only produce great films, but to enhance the overall experience.

How long are the main features?
Our main features run about 15 to 25 minutes depending on the events that take place during each wedding. The factors that determine the length of a feature are the personal vows, quality/length of speeches, and other cultural events. We like to take the day of footage and use as much of the audio, speeches, vows, etc.; while overlaying shots of preps, photos, and such in order to create a cinematic story. Main features are extremely enjoyable to watch and very story driven.

How long are the highlights?
Highlights run for about 1 or 2 songs and are usually 3-7 minutes in length.

How do I get the final film(s)?
We are always in search of ways to create the best product for you.  We deliver all films on flash drives.  We have found that delivering the electronic files helps you to be able to back up and copy your films easily so that you can preserve them longer.  This also means you get a higher quality finished film(s) and you can easily put play it on your TV, computer, ipad and where ever else you like to watch movies. The flash drives will include the items listed in your package; main features, highlights and love stories.
